Gradients
Perpendicular lines are installed in the space with a sloping ceiling to create order and balance. Ceremony and Hints of the Intermediary Space
Through the narrow foyer area and the deliberately-dimmed lights, the passage from the foyer into the house is a rite of space. It is to symbolize the process/path on which the complications and clamors of the city are discarded in order to return to the serenity of spirit. At the end of the foyer, a shaft of light slants inwards from the left, follow the light to the line of movement, it also represents the longing to be together again with one's family.
Connection between the Perpendicular Faux-Space Through the opening in the floor boards above the dining area and a repositioning of the stairwell, a direct open space is created to expand the visual perspective, at the same time bringing light and air flow to the attic. A connection is made with the previously closed attic space, initiating dialog between the perpendicular spaces. The affection and interaction between family members will also grow correspondingly.
Divisions between the Horizontal Installations
Between the formerly visually-disorganized slanted surfaces and beams of the attic space, vertical and horizontal installations are introduced between the slanted planes - a long bar, a straight staircase, and a low TV cabinet - to maintain the openness of the line of sight, as well as to divide the spaces up according to the functionality. This creates interaction between the horizontal spaces.
Emotive Materials
The materials selected complement the large expanse of greenery and the beautiful scenery of the estuary. Original rock surfaces and natural wood finishes are brought indoors and left as is without too much refinement to provide an atmosphere of tranquil relaxation. |
